The Third Penn-Ohio Lineman’s Rodeo will be held this July 11 at the Greenville Municipal Airport, in Greenville, PA. This year’s event is open to Apprentice and Journeyman Power Lineman. Prizes will be awarded to the first 3 places in both the Apprentice and Journeyman classes. The first place Journeyman team will take home the Penn-Ohio Trophy, currently residing in Cleveland Ohio with the team of Jim Maly, Scott Simmerly and Chuck Bremmer. They will be defending their championship this year. See the 2008 results at the bottom of the page. The prizes will be awarded at a picnic after the completion of the events on Saturday.
The entry fee is $75.00 per Apprentice while the 3 man Journeyman teams (2 climbers and a groundman) will be $250.00. An entry form is available for download, or can be obtained by calling or emailing Rod Paul as seen at the bottom of this web page.
There will be a local vendor offering breakfast and lunch. A ticket for the awards picnic is included with your entry fee. Additional tickets will be available on site.
2008 Results
In a very spirited competition, the team of Jim Maly, Scott Simmerly and Chuck Bremmer won the 2008 Journeyman’s division. Second Place went to 2006 and 2007 winners from Guernsey-Muskingham REC, Rob Weber, Mark Martin and Lance Landon. (Missing this year was Frank Wells-attending a wedding) Third Place went to the team from Northwestern REC, Ross Thomas, Chad Smith and Alvery Lester. The Masters Division crown went to Joe Myers, Dan Liebold and Duane Arisman of Duquesne Light. The winner of the Apprentice Division was Blake West of Guernsey Muskingham, Second went to Dan Bender of First Energy (Penelec Division) and Third Place was won by Andrew Lipesey of Par Electric.
The 2008 event was a success for a large part because our supporters, including David Inman of Klein Tools, Mel Utrip of Aircraft Dynamics, Paul Cummings of United States Structural Support and Bashlin Industries Inc.
The utilities supporting our effort included Duquesne Light Co, Grove City Borough Electric and Jersey Central Power and Light Co.
