Events
The events will be judged according to safe work practice, correct procedures with the time to complete each task being the last evaluator.
Journeyman Category – (3 man teams)
- Hurt Man Rescue – Each
of the climbing members of the team will “rescue”
a 150 lb. mannequin from a 40 foot pole under simulated
“hot” conditions.
- Rope Splice – all three contestants will eye-splice 3 strand rope.
- Cross Arm Change – An
8 foot cross arm will be replaced under “hot”
conditions using standard techniques. The participants must provide rubber gloves, cover-up (blankets and line hose will be provided). There will be 3 phases with a neutral.
- Climbing Event – Each climber must climb up and down a 40 foot pole that has 3 cross arms. At each cross-arm, a task must be completed on the way up and while descending the other side of the pole.
- Transformer Hookup – 3 transformer bank, the secondary side must be wired.
Apprentice Category
- Hurt Man Rescue – The
lineman will “rescue” a 150 lb. mannequin
from a 40 foot pole under simulated “hot”
conditions.
- Rope Splice – The contestant
will place a 5 tuck eye splice on the end of a 1/2 inch strand
twisted poly-dacron rope.
- Transformer Connection - properly wire up a single phase transformer
- Climbing Event – Each climber must climb up and down a 40 foot pole that has 3 cross arms. At each cross-arm, a task must be completed on the way up and while descending the other side of the pole.
